How to sleep after a hair transplant

A hair transplant can be life-changing for many people. It can restore self-confidence and make you feel better about yourself.

However, it is important to follow the post-operative instructions closely in order to ensure a successful recovery. One of the most important things to do after a hair transplant is to get a good night’s sleep as part of the healing process after your hair restoration surgery.

But how do you get the right sleeping position and how do you go about hair washing?

Here are some tips on how to sleep after a hair transplant.

The best time in life to get a hair transplant depends on several factors.

  • One factor to consider is your age. It’s generally recommended that people wait until they are at least 25 years old before getting a hair transplant. This is because hair loss often begins in the early 20s, but it can be difficult to predict how extensive the hair loss will be.
  • Another factor to consider is your health. People with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or blood disorders, may not be good candidates for a hair transplant.
  • Finally, you should also consider your lifestyle and whether you’re willing to make changes to protect your transplanted hair, such as using sun protection and avoiding it.

What’s the best position to sleep in after a hair transplant?

One of the most important things to consider after a hair transplant is your sleeping position. This will impact both the success of the surgery and your comfort levels during the healing process.

  • After your hair transplant, it is important to sleep with your head properly elevated for the first few nights. This will help reduce swelling and bruising around the donor area and recipient sites. You can prop up your head with pillows or sleep in a recliner chair.
  • Try to avoid sleeping on your stomach or side, as this can put pressure on the grafts and disrupt their blood supply.
  • When you first lie down, place a towel rolled up under your neck for support.
  • Avoid tossing and turning when you start sleeping after your hair restoration if you can
  • Sleep on satin or silk pillowcases to reduce friction and protect your grafts from rubbing against harsh fabrics.
  • Avoid using hair products (including shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, etc.) for the first week after your transplant. After that, you can resume using your regular products.
  • Gently clean your scalp with a mild shampoo and cool water starting on the third day after surgery. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the grafts.
  • You can try sleeping pills if you wish to, but we’d always recommend consulting your doctor first

Be sure to follow all of your hair transplant surgeon’s instructions for care after your hair transplant to ensure you’re not sleeping in the wrong position and that your new hair grows in the best way.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact them.

FAQs about sleeping after your hair restoration

When can I sleep normally again after a hair transplant?

Assuming that you have had a successful hair transplant procedure, you should be able to sleep in a normal position within a few days.

However, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions during the recovery period to ensure that the hair grafts take and that you do not experience any complications.

For the first few nights after the surgical procedure, you will need to sleep with your head elevated on soft pillows to minimise swelling. You may also be advised to wear a special headband or scarf to hold the transplanted hair in place.

After a few days, you can resume your normal sleep habits. If you have any concerns about how your recovery is progressing, be sure to consult with your hair transplant surgeon.

Should I use a neck pillow to sleep?

It is highly recommended that patients use a neck pillow to sleep after their hair transplant procedure. This will help to prevent the head and neck from moving during the night and help to keep the newly transplanted hairs in place. The soft pillow should be firm enough to support the head and neck, but soft enough to be comfortable.

It is also important to sleep on your back or your side post surgery, as sleeping on your stomach can put pressure on the transplanted hairs and cause them to fall out.

If you have any questions or concerns about using a neck pillow after your hair transplant, please contact your doctor or hair transplant surgeon.

How do I speed up the healing after hair transplant surgery?

There are a few things you can do to speed up the healing process after one of the FUE hair transplants.

  • First, make sure you follow all of your doctor’s instructions carefully. This includes taking any prescribed medications and avoiding any activities that could irritate the recipient area.
  • Second, keep the transplanted area clean and free from dirt and debris. Be sure to gently wash it with a mild soap and water solution several times a day.
  • Finally, try to keep your head elevated as much as possible to reduce swelling and promote healing.

If you follow these simple tips, you should see a noticeable improvement in your recovery time.

Should you scratch after a hair transplant procedure?

One of the most common questions we get asked is whether or not it is ok to scratch your head after a hair transplant. The answer is that it really depends on the stage of your hair growth after your newly transplanted hair follicles.

In the early stages, when your hair follicles are just starting to grow, scratching can actually damage the new healthy hair follicles and cause them to fall out. However, once your hair has grown in and is fully established, scratching will not have any adverse effects.

So if you’re itching to scratch your head, just be sure to wait until your hair has had a chance to fully grow in first.
