What’s the procedure for female hair transplants?

A female hair transplant in Poland  involves:

  • Taking out your hair follicles form the sides and back of your scalp
  • Follicular grafts (which are like tiny pieces of hair) are inserted into the parts of your scalp that are bald or thinning, using special equipment
  • Grafts are transplanted in a way that doesn’t disrupt the rest of your strands of hair
  • These new follicular grafts mean the surgeon can create a finished look that is very natural
  • This happens in one procedure or more, depending on the number of grafts or follicles you require and the condition of your scalp all over
  • After roughly 3 weeks, the new grafts will have started to grow properly and will continue for the rest of your life

Frequently Asked Questions: Female hair loss

When can I expect to see results after the hair transplant procedure?

It really varies when it comes to how fast the results happen. This is because it depends on how fast your hair normally grows and how long it would take for the hair grafts to meet the length of the rest of your hair.

So, for example, if you have shorter hair which grows very quickly, you’ll see results much faster than if your hair grows slowly. But this is something your surgeon can discuss with you before the transplantation.

How much does a female hair transplant cost?

The price can vary in different countries, increasing up to nearly £10,000 in some locations. But in Poland, it’s much more affordable.

How long do I need off work for female hair transplant surgery?

It’s recommended to take roughly 2 weeks for a full recovery from your operation before you go back to work. If you prefer to, or depending on your job, you can return to work after a 1 week time period, for example for office work.

However, for the full recovery period, you’ll need the 2 weeks for any marks to heal properly. If you need a note for work, ask your surgeon about this.

How long do I need to use non-surgical products for?

If you decide to use non-surgical products on your hair to encourage healthy and strong hair growth, you’ll need to continue using them for as long as you want to see results.

That means if you stop using the products at any point, your hair will go back to the speed it was growing before and however healthy the follicles were growing too.

That can often be one of the benefits of choosing to undergo one of our hair transplants because the surgery is a permanent choice for life.

When can I start to style my hair again after a female hair transplant?

Typically, the recommendation is to shampoo your hair every day to remove any scabs. Then, after roughly 2 weeks (14 days), you can start washing your hair normally, as you would before the operation. If you need to, you can wash it more than once in a day. Talk to your surgeon to discuss practical concerns like this.

What age do women start to lose hair?

Some women can start losing their hair as young as in their 20s, others in their 30s. But we shed lots of hair every single day, which is completely natural.

But if you’re shedding more than you would like to be on a regular basis, you could consider a female hair transplant.

Losing hair can be down to genetics as well, so have a chat with your family members to see if there’s a common theme in your family.

Is female and male hair loss the same?

Female and male hair loss is different. When women lose their hair, this starts to happen at the crown of the head, which is why lots of women tend to notice their parting becoming wider over time.

Men and women’s hair follow very different hairlines.

Can hair loss be reversed for ladies?

Female baldness can’t be reversed. But through a hair transplant in Poland, you can have grafts implanted to start growing your head of hair back to what it was like before.

A hair transplant for ladies dealing with hair loss can help rejuvenate your confidence and wellbeing.

How long does the female hair transplant take?

The hair transplants can be as quick as a couple of hours, if you require a smaller number of grafts to be transplanted. But if you require closer to 3,000 grafts, this can be longer, so you would need more sessions over a couple of days.

I’m struggling with hair loss, specifically hair thinning. Can I have one of the hair transplants?

Yes! The women’s hair transplant is a perfect option to consider if you’re struggling with permanent hair loss or maybe you’ve only recently lost hair. Our surgeon Dr Marwan Saifi is a specialist in hair restoration and he’s worked with thousands of patients to bring women’s hair back to prime health.

Should you use heat products on your hair after your hair transplant surgery?

Try not to use too many heat products on your hair after your fue hair transplant procedure because straighteners, curlers and dryers should only be used about 2 weeks after your surgery.

Try sticking to just having your hair up in a loose ponytail until then if you have longer hair.

Can you use hair spray after a hair transplant procedure?

You can’t use any spray on your hair after your restoration surgery for up to 4 weeks because it may block the newly transplanted hair follicles and cause ingrown hairs.

But we can discuss all the side effects in your consultation. Then you can have your follicular unit extraction with confidence.
