Breast Uplift

Turn back the clock ...

Breast Uplift Abroad

Also known as mastopexy, a breast uplift is a cosmetic surgery designed to lift and firm the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the newly contoured breasts.

As women age, the breasts can lose their youthful shape and firmness due to factors such as:

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Ageing
  • Gravity
  • Heredity

These changes can often result in loose skin and reduced skin elasticity, leading to a less youthful breast appearance. If the areola (the breast skin surrounding the nipple) has also become enlarged over time, the uplift procedure can reduce its size as part of the surgery.

The Breast Lift Procedure

BREAST UPLIFT SURGERY: THE TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUE

Women often choose breast uplift surgery to improve the shape and size of their breasts. In some cases, it is necessary to remove excess tissue from beneath the breast to achieve the desired uplift. This procedure leaves scars, as shown in the diagram, which fade over time.

Step 1 – Anaesthesia

Our anaesthetist administers carefully graduated general anaesthesia prior to your procedure.

Step 2 – The Incision

There are several incision options:

  • A circular incision around the areola
  • A keyhole or racquet-shaped incision around the areola, extending vertically down to the breast crease
  • An inverted T or anchor-shaped incision pattern

Our surgeon will discuss options at pre-operative consultation with you.

Step 3 – Removing tissue and repositioning

Once the incision is made, the nipple, still connected to its original blood and nerve supply, is repositioned. If needed, the areola is reduced by excising skin from the perimeter.

Excess breast tissue is then removed, lifted, and reshaped. In cases of very large, pendulous breasts, the nipple and areola may need to be removed and relocated to a higher position on the breast (free nipple graft).

Step 4 – Closing the incisions

The incisions are carefully brought together to reshape the slightly smaller breast. Sutures are placed deep within the tissue to support the new shape, while skin adhesives and/or surgical tape close the skin. Although the incision lines are permanent, they typically fade and improve significantly over time.

Step 5 – See the results

The results of your breast uplift surgery are immediately visible. Post-surgical swelling will subside, and incision lines will fade. As you recover, your satisfaction with your new appearance should continue to grow.

THE IMPLANT TECHNIQUE

The Implant Technique utilises a silicone implant to provide the uplift. These breast implants are inserted, as with the enlargement surgery, which results in more fullness in the breast and causes less scarring than the traditional breast uplift.

Any scars are typically hidden within the natural crease line under the breast, without the need for downward scars from the nipple or repositioning of the nipple.

While breast uplift surgery reshapes the breasts, it does not significantly alter their size or add fullness to the upper part. If you desire fuller or smaller breasts, you may want to consider breast enlargement or breast reduction surgery instead.
