What Does a Breast Reduction Cosmetic Procedure Entail?
A successful breast reduction surgery aims for around a 40 to 50% reduction in size, which is the safe limit. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.
One method involves simply removing excess fat from the breasts using liposuction techniques. A more invasive method includes making incisions:
- During the operation excess skin, excess tissue, and mammary glands are removed, and the breasts are given renewed shape by uplifting and suturing of the remaining breast tissue.
- After remodelling, excessive skin is removed, and the nipple-areola complex (reduced in size) is repositioned.
- Before suturing, drains are inserted to prevent the occurrence of haematoma.
- The skin margins are then joined together with delicate stitches.
Recovery after the plastic surgery
Our cosmetic surgeon recommends that patients stay in a recovery room in our clinic for one night and six nights in Poland after the surgery in order to let the incisions heal before flying home.
You can resume work 10 to 14 days after your cosmetic surgery. You should avoid excessive physical effort like heavy lifting for a few weeks after the breast surgery.
