Approved by the FDA back in 2001, an adjustable gastric band is the most common form of weight loss surgery in Europe and Australia.
What is gastric band surgery?
Gastric band surgery is a weight loss procedure performed by means of a laparoscopy that involves placing an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach.
This reduces the amount of food you can eat, helping you feel full faster and making it easier to lose weight. It’s a quick and effective way to treat excess weight and achieve your desired body shape with lasting results.
What are the different types of weight loss surgeries can I get?
Our bariatric procedures include the silicone band, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric bypass surgery. Our surgeons will clearly explain the surgical procedures, what they involve, and potential complications that may occur.

If you’re a heavy smoker, you could only consider getting a gastric band surgery after you cut down smoking significantly. You could discuss your circumstances with our surgeon in more detail.
How do I prepare for surgery diet wise?
A two-week fat-free diet before surgery helps reduce the fat around the liver. This makes the procedure technically easier and safer. Patients weighing over 170 kg are advised to lose weight with the assistance of medication and other interventions, as the surgery carries higher risks for those with excess weight.
